Why You Should Consider This Activity:

  • Cultural component: Experience the rich traditions of Guanacaste’s iconic “pampa”—the vast plains known for their deep-rooted cattle ranching culture. As you drive through this authentic hacienda ganadera (cattle ranch), you may be fortunate enough to see sabaneros (cowboys) herding cattle or water buffaloes by the streams, set against the backdrop of the tropical dry forest with its distinctive flora, including the majestic Guanacaste tree. Throughout the shuttle ride, during the welcome briefing, or on the optional horseback riding tour, your guides will provide insights into the property’s past, present, and future. Additionally, artisans from the Guaitil community occasionally visit the hacienda to offer a bonus pottery-making demonstration, showcasing ancestral Chorotega techniques.
  • Wildlife and scenery: As you ride along dirt roads through the property’s hills, enjoy the stunning landscape and watch for local wildlife such as iguanas and a variety of bird species. From the hilltop, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the pampa, the Cañas River, and even the windmills near Santa Cruz—perfect for a memorable photo.
  • Family-owned hospitality: This property has been owned by a local Costa Rican family for four generations. You may meet Cristobalina or her sons, who personally help run the operations and ensure you feel welcomed and have an unforgettable time.
  • Unique ziplining experience: Unlike typical treetop ziplines, this course offers a series of 9 cables stretching from hilltop to hilltop. Soar through the open air, taking in incredible views as you glide from one platform to the next with ease.
  • Certified safety and fun: Accompanied by expert certified guides, you’ll receive clear safety instructions and support throughout the experience, ensuring a safe and exciting adventure for the whole family.

What To Expect:

8:00–8:30 AM: 🚐 Pick-up at your location. Depending on where you’re staying, pick-up will occur between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. While later schedules are available, we strongly recommend the morning excursion to avoid the intense midday heat of Guanacaste’s pampa.

Drive to Hacienda (30–45 min): Enjoy a scenic drive through Guanacaste’s rural landscapes, where the driver may share insights about the property’s history or point out interesting sights along the way. Upon arrival at the hacienda, you’ll be warmly greeted by David or the friendly staff. Bathroom facilities and lockers are available for you to store your belongings before starting your adventure.

Safety Gear: Once the group is ready, you’ll be fitted with all the necessary safety gear—harness, helmet, and gloves.

Scenic Ride (20 min): A slow, scenic drive through the property’s dirt roads will take you through grasslands, patches of forest, and the pampa as you ascend to the starting point of the ziplining adventure.

Arrival at First Platform: Here, you’ll receive a safety briefing and instructions. Take this opportunity to ask any questions. This platform offers stunning views of the pampa, the Cañas River, and the windmills near Santa Cruz—perfect for photos!

Ziplining Adventure: Your guide will demonstrate how to zip safely before you take off on the 9-cable circuit. Soar up to 120 meters above the ground, with some lines stretching 1 kilometer long, offering a thrilling ride from mountaintop to mountaintop. As you glide through the tropical dry forest, keep an eye out for howler monkeys and scarlet macaws in the treetops.

Return to Reception: After the final cable, you’ll return to the main reception area. Take a moment to relax, grab some water, use the facilities, and share your experience with fellow travelers.

Guaitil Pottery Demonstration: In some cases, your experience may include a bonus pottery-making demonstration from the Chorotega indigenous culture. An artisan from Guaitil village will explain the importance of this ancient tradition and showcase the techniques that have been passed down through generations. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase beautifully handcrafted pieces as souvenirs. This demonstration adds a meaningful cultural element, enriching your journey with us.

Return Shuttle: Once you’ve finished, wait for the shuttle to take you back to your accommodation.

Optional Additional Activities: For those looking to make the most of their day, we recommend adding lunch, horseback riding or ATV tours for this day. Lunch consists of a delicious casado (traditional Costa Rican meal) with options of chicken, pork, or vegetarian. Please note that fruits and dessert are not included in the meal price.
