What To Expect:
Hanging Bridges: Discover three hanging bridges at the Heliconia Preserve, each offering a unique perspective of pristine rainforest beauty. Ranging from 75 to 95 meters in length and 27 to 35 meters in height, these bridges provide thrilling experiences high above the forest floor. Additionally, a 35-meter-high platform surrounding a towering tree offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lush surroundings.
Sloth and Wildlife: Owned and managed by a local family, Finca Verde is now a thriving forest sanctuary, though it was a barren farmland just three decades ago. Currently Finca Verde teems with diverse wildlife, including birds, sloths, and amphibians. Explore and learn about the wonders of nature in this lush haven, a prime spot for observing sloths in their natural habitat.
Authentic Costa Rican Food: Treat your taste buds to the beloved Casado, a traditional lunch featuring white rice, red or black beans, and a protein of your choice (chicken, fish, beef, or pork), accompanied by a fresh green salad (lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shredded carrots, and a splash of fresh lime juice, seasoned with salt, pepper, and optional olive oil or vinegar). Vegetarians can savor alternatives like avocado, cheese, or sweet plantains instead of the protein options. Local restaurants, known as sodas, often offer delectable additions such as Picadillo (a savory blend of finely chopped vegetables and meat) or Ensalada Rusa (a tantalizing mix of potato, beet, celery, cilantro, chopped hard-boiled eggs, carrots, and mayonnaise).
Cultural Activity: Choose between a hands-on tortilla or empanada-making class in a cozy Costa Rican home, or a fascinating coffee and cacao tour outdoors.
- Tortilla-Making Class: In the charming town of Bijagua, youโll be welcomed into a local familyโs home to learn the traditional art of making corn tortillas. Get involved in the process as you craft your own tortillas, which youโll enjoy with local cheese, natilla (Costa Rican sour cream), and cafรฉ chorreado (traditional drip coffee).
- Coffee & Cacao Experience: If you choose this option, youโll take part in an engaging tour that delves into the history and importance of these two crops in Costa Rica. Youโll explore the beautiful plants, see the fruits in season, and participate in the process of making and tasting both coffee and chocolate drinks.
